In 2013, the BBC commissioned the Dales Jam to support three North Yorkshire community youth ensembles in composing original music for vintage regional shorts from the Yorkshire Film Archive. The resulting scores were performed live alongside the original films during the Richmond Jazz and Grassington Festivals. Now the Dales Jam brings West Riding Silent Shorts to Bradford: an hour of archive shorts with live original scores, supported by a set of soundtrack music to films by Fellini, Kurosawa, Kusturica, Coppola and more, all in new arrangements by Richard Ormrod [Yorkshire Jazz Musician of the Year 2012].

Now in its tenth year, led by and featuring MD Richard Ormrod, the Dales Jam is an independent and inclusive organisation of over 30 musicians that samples world rhythms with jazz vocabulary, improvisation and celebration, and delivers them in its own inimitable way; anyone can join the band and everyone can enjoy!
