The film set and shot in Bradford and supported by Bradford UNESCO City of Film is one of three films to be nominated for an international prize.
The LUX prize will be presented in Strasbourg on December 11. The other two films up for nominated are The Broken Circle Breakdown and Miele.
The objective of the LUX Prize is to illuminate the public debate on European integration and to facilitate the diffusion of European films in the European Union.
The Selfish Giant, written and directed by Clio Barnard of Otley, is about two boys who turn to scrap metal dealing.
The Selfish Giant has won many awards and has been getting great reviews.
