Are you aged 16-19? Passionate about film? Interested in a career in the film industry? If so, please join us over a series of weekends in person and online this Winter for this year’s BFI Film Academy Bradford delivered by Reel Solutions for the British Film Institute.
BFI Film Academy offers opportunities for ambitious young people, anywhere in the UK, to get to know more about film and how to make a career in the screen industries. Supported by the Department for Education, National Lottery and University of Bradford, the introductory hands-on filmmaking course in Bradford provides the very highest quality film skills training, builds knowledge and shows the different pathways into the industry whether you want to test the waters or improve your existing skills. You’ll have fun with filmmaking processes making a film from start to finish and gain confidence and contacts.
We have been running and developing Academies for 10 years throughout the UK. Our gold standard industry focused course in Bradford has an excellent track record of inspiring the next generation of filmmakers and crew in the Yorkshire region with many of our former participants now working in a range of roles in film and TV. Once you have completed this course, you will become part of the growing BFI Film Academy alumni network with access to events such as career and skills talks and further opportunities to attend courses to advance your learning and film experience both with the BFI and other organisations such as Lucas Films who work with the BFI to provide entry level career opportunities for BFI Film Academy graduates.

WHEN AND WHERE?
The BFI Film Academy Bradford starts on Friday 26 November 5-7pm and will run most Friday nights and all day Saturday until the start of the Christmas break with a few extra days (December 18-20) at the start of the holidays for shoot day and editing and Saturday 8 January 2022. We will be working both online and in person at the University of Bradford. Applications are open now and will close on 15 November 2021.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for 20 young people aged 16-19 who want to find out more about film and think they might like to try for the first time, or further develop, their filmmaking skills. Previous filmmaking experience isn’t necessary. We welcome applications from all young people including those eligible for free school meals, disabled young people including those with non-visible disabilities and mental health conditions and young people who may experience racism.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
BFI Film Academy Bradford costs £25 to attend. If you think you will struggle to find this amount or might need assistance covering other associated course costs such as travel and childcare, please still apply – if your application is successful, we’ll make sure you can attend – there is a bursary fund to cover these costs where eligible.
