Bradford Venezuela Link Group

Bradford Venezuela Link Group is a group of people from across the Bradford District who want to learn from Venezuela, show solidarity with the revolution, and challenge the biased UK media reporting of what is going on in Venezuela.

As part of their Autumn film season 2013, A series of films at the Kirkgate Centre, Shipley BD18 3EH (map). Each film will be followed by a discussion and a live Skype link to Venezuela.

Growing Change

An inspiring documentary that looks at one of the most exciting experiments in the world to grow a fair and sustainable food system. In Venezuela, from fishing villages to cocoa plantations to urban gardens, a growing social movement is showing what’s possible when communities, not corporations, start to take control of food.

 

Tocar y Luchar (To Play and to Fight)

Sunday 10th November, 7pm. Tickets: £4 waged/£3 unwaged

Tocar y Luchar presents the captivating story of the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra System – an incredible network of hundreds of orchestras formed within most of Venezuela’s towns and villages. Once a modest programme designed to expose rural children to the wonders of music, El Sistema has become one of the most important and beautiful music phenomena in modern history. The film will be followed by a Skype link to an organiser of El Sistema in Venezuela.

 

Launch of the Bradford – Venezuela Link Group

Sunday November 24th 7pm With Alvaro Sanchez from the Venezuelan Embassy.

The Venezuela Link Group has been meeting informally to learn more about what is happening in Venezuela and to plan the autumn film season. At the launch meeting we will consider how we move forward, and whether we continue to focus on Venezuela or include other Latin American countries.
