What does film in the City mean to you?  Saturday trips to the cinema? How many old cinemas do you remember? Have you fond memories caught on camera at a Bradford Mela? Or on a family picnic at Bolton Abbey? Or did you capture a moment on film in Bradford’s punk movement?

Archive footage has a unique ability to tell a story and Bradford UNESCO City of Film is launching a search for footage that tells the story of the city’s diverse and colourful past for all generations to enjoy.Bradford Life on Film is our anniversary archive project – and we’re inviting anyone with digitised footage of the 80’s, 90s’ and noughties to pop by for a brew and to share your story with us.

Create your own… Movie Sound Effects

Foley is the art of making sound effects for film, television and radio, a lot of what you hear has been recreated to enhance sound quality. These reproduced sounds can be anything from squeaking doors to lightsabers and often a created using unusual techniques. Foley artists use coconut shells on a hard surfaces or gravel to replicate the sound of horses galloping or an umbrella opening and closing rapidly for bats flying.

This workshop will introduce you to the basics and look at how to use household items to recreate some of the well known sound effects for your own movies.

As a longstanding member of the City of Film team, Rachel Bottomley leads on engagement, working on film projects across Bradford’s diverse communities. In this workshop Rachel is inviting older people to join her to learn new skills about how to convert photos and footage from mobiles phones and turn them into short films the whole family can treasure.
