Bradford UNESCO City of Film – 10th Anniversary Events Programme

Following the prestigious award of the United Nations Education Science and Cultural Organisation’s City of Film status 2009, Bradford continues to use the transformational power of film to help drive profound social and economic change.

2019 will be Bradford’s 10th Anniversary as a UNESCO Creative City, and to mark the occasion there will be a year long programme of celebrations, events and activities.

These events include;

 International Film Educational Symposium 

Join keynote speakers such as, the BFI’s Head of Education Mark Reid, guests from across the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and the UK to learn more about the power of film in education. Sessions include interactive workshops, panel discussions, and a host of opportunities to discover more about Bradford’s Film Literacy programme, Film Education in a Community setting and Media Information Literacy.

Lights Camera Equality! 

The event is being hosted by Bradford UNESCO City of Film in partnership with BBC Radio Leeds. The debate will be recorded live for BBC Radio Leeds at the University of Bradford and will be broadcast on Backstage, the stations Arts & Culture Show, on Wednesday 6th March 7pm, to mark International Women’s Day later in the week.

Chaired by the University of Bradford’s lecturer in film and television studies, Dr Karen Thornton with BBC Radio Leeds, panellists include screenwriter Lisa Holdsworth, documentary maker Jin Craven and Bradford filmmaker Suman Hanif.
