City of Film Launch Weekend - March 2010
Bradford City of Film was formally launched through a weekend of activities on March 18th to the 21st 2010. Linked to the opening night of the 16th Bradford International Film Festival, the weekend was a whole host of film related activities taking place including:
- A civic reception where the Lord Mayor declared the weekend opened and which featured children and parents who took part in My City, My Family, My Film with the first public showing of the film. - The People's Premiere - A competition open to readers of the T&A where people got to win the full red carpet expereince and to attend the UK premiere of the film Perriers Bounty at the Bradford International Film Festival
- 'Pop-Up Cinemas' - cinemas appearing in unusual places; we had a free cinema showing Hollywood and Bollywood in a marquee and an empty shop in Centenary Square
- Symposia - two film symposia; one on gender in film and one on architecure in film
- An Industry Weekend for people working in or wanting to work in the film industry
- The People's Cinema - a place for people to screen films they have made to their families, friends and others
- Events in the City Centre and at shops and businesses - Laurel and Hardy, a 'behind the scenes' in the Kirkgate Centre, shops in the Kirkgate centre dressing up as their favourite movie characters and huge BRADFORD letters by City Hall
- Screenings of films at The Midland Hotel, a Bollywood cookery class at Zouk Tea Bar, A film themed menu at Symposium in Idle, an Alice in Wonderland tea at the Great Victoria Hotel and discounts at Omar Khans.
- A walking tour of Bradford's movie trail
- A Roald Dahl family fun day at the Central Library and National Media Museum
- A schools competition to review The Railway Children.
