My City, My Family, My Film
Step forward, Bradford's children, parents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters and cousins!
We've had our share of challenges: social, cultural, economic and educational. As the world's first City of Film, Bradford has the chance to change all that, becoming a world-class place to visit and enjoy film, learn about it and make it. Renowned nationally and internationally, by 2020, Bradford will be synonymous with film.
As part of the world’s first City of Film, CapeUK and Education Bradford came together to develop a new project, My City, My Family, My Film.

School pupils and their families were invited to the National Media Museum to share personal stories as they learned about the film making process. Each student interviewed an older family member on camera, asking the same three questions:
- What brought you to Bradford?
- What's your favourite film & why?
- What's the best thing about our family?

Each filmed sequence features with both student interviewer and relative in shot, against a branded backdrop. The results are edited together to make a compilation film. The whole combines to create a fascinating insight into social and family history, whilst giving Bradford's young people a valuable learning opportunity.
Some of the children and relatives who took part also featured at the formal Civic Launch for City of Film on the 18th March.
So how did it feel?
"This is the first time I have explained to my son how and why our family came to England."
"I first came to Bradford 20 years ago and I knew I would spend the rest of my life here. I love Bradford!"
"Let us know of more events like this, we would love to be involved."
"My grandma is so nervous but I will help her to do well."
"I have walked past the museum so many times and I am so glad to have visited now."
"Doing this interview with my daughter has given me more confidence."
"I moved away for three years and couldn't wait to get back.. it's home."
"My favourite film is Mary Poppins. When I became a mum, I couldn't wait to share it with my children. I went into childcare, maybe it was an influence!"
"I am busy and wasn't going to come. My son begged me and I am so glad I did."
"I would like to introduce you to my dad..."
