The 2010 Industry Weekend Strategies for Survival is two packed days of events and masterclasses for anyone working in film. This year’s event will focus on how people and organisations are creating new business models to help them survive in these difficult times, including how different platforms are enabling filmmakers to get their work to new audiences.

Guerilla cinema comes to Bradford! Exclusively for City of Film, Pop-up Cinema pops up where you least expect it, in a marquee in Centenary Square to bring you the best from Hollywood to Bollywood and the new Bradford film My City, My Family, My Film.  Wander in at your leisure, grab a seat and enjoy the film. Your chance to recreate your own Oscar moment as a special City of Film animation offers a sneaky peak behind-the-scenes on a film shoot.  Entry:  FREE.

Who needs Hollywood when we've got red carpet glamour right here in Bradford?  Check out the girls at Boots, The Perfume Shop, New Look, River Island and others who are channelling their inner Keira/Meryl/Demi to dress like their favourite movie stars just for City of Film weekend.

City of Film brings comedy legends to your doorstep...well, almost.  Take a stroll around Centenary Square and the Kirkgate to see if you can spot Laurel and Hardy.  Ask them nicely and - who knows? - you could capture the moment for posterity.

Recreate the Hollywood hills with City of Film's take on the immortal letters...for HOLLYWOOD read BRADFORD in Centenary Square.

 

Cult Fiction Symposium

Yarn Spinners Guided Film Tour of the City Centre

City Centre, 2pm - Meet in the foyer of the National Media Museum 

Bradford-based Yarn Spinners Tours are offering a special guided ‘movie’ tour of the City Centre over the launch weekend to celebrate film locations and places of film history and importance.

The guide is knowledgeable and passionate about Films and Bradford, being born and bred in the city and being an actor himself. He will guide visitors to some of the locations on the Movie Trail that were used for classic films such as Billy Liar and Room at the Top and for television productions such as No Angels, and Coronation Street.  This guided walk is through much of the city centre, which includes a mixture of flat and hilly areas.  Duration 1 hour 45 mins. Running alongside the National Media Museum's weekend, a chance for kids to enjoy the best of the man, whilst parents pit their wits against the City of Film quiz.  Entry:  FREE

Zouk Tea Bar Cookery Class

10am, approx 3hrs

A first for Zouk Bradford, just for City of Film. Join a small, select group to learn how to make the finest Indian cuisine from scratch, then dine like a Bollywood star as you pull up a chair and enjoy the fruits of your labours. You'll leave with a goodie bag to help you recreate your dishes at home, together with a hotline to answer your culinary conundrums from the comfort of your own kitchen. Architecture and Cinema Symposium

The University of Bradford presents a one day symposium for City of Film. Speakers include film-maker Murray Grigor, David B. Then this is for you.  Exclusively for City of Film, the People's Cinema sets up at the Playhouse for one weekend only.  How does it work?  Simply send in your film to Fabric, they'll watch it to make sure it's suitable for public screening, then allocate you a slot. Invite your family and friends to come and see your handiwork from the comfort of a proper cinema seat. Whilst Fabric will not schedule extreme material, guests are advised that viewing is at the audience's own risk. 

Entry FREE to register and screen your film and FREE to watch. Spaces to screen youir film will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Once the programme is full, its full.

Celebrating Jean Simmons - Dinner & Life at the Top

Midland  In the year that British cinema lost one of its finest daughters, the Midland Hotel invites you to celebrate the life and work of Jean Simmons at this very special evening.  Life at the Top  (1965) was filmed at various locations in Bradford, including this hotel.
