Want to screen a film?

Want to get the cinema experience where you live and in your community? City of Film can help you do just that.

Screening Equipment

Bradford City of Film has portable cinema projection equipment that is available to hire out to film societies, individuals and organisations.  Fabric manages the equipment on behalf of City of Film and arranges bookings and collections of the equipment. The hirer is responsible for collecting and returning the equipment back to Fabric, although all of the equipment can fit in a large car.

What can I hire?

Projector - Epson EMP - TW1000 Projector (1,200 ANSI Lumens) . This projector is powerful enough to screen in large auditoriums but can also be used in small spaces, too (like your front room!)

You can screen directly from cameras (HD), laptops, computers and DVD players All appropriate leads come with the equipment.

Screen - Da-lite fastfold 108"x62" 16:9 projection screen

You can use the front projection screen or a rear projection, if you don’t have space or don’t want the projector in front of your screen

DVD Player - Samsung 1080p8 Black Multi-Region DVD Player & flight case

Audio system - HK Audio Lucas Smart System with carrying case

A great free-standing PA system and speakers so you can get amazing sound.

How do I go about booking?

Contact Fabric on 01274 370 291 or email . They are located in the Design Exchange, Peckover Street, Bradford BD1 5BD.  They’ll schedule in your screening/collection and return dates.

Great!  So, how much is it?

There is only a £150 deposit, but provided that you return the equipment at the agreed time and in the same condition as when you received it, you will get £120 back (so only a £30 charge!).  The £30 is to build up a fund for replacing lamps and general upkeep for the equipment. There is a waived fee for the first time you hire out the equipment, but you still need to pay a deposit.

You can read the hire agreement here.

So, is that it?  I’m ready to screen a film? Do I need a licence?

Not quite yet.  If you’re going to be screening a commercial film, you need to make sure that you get a licence to do this, whether for the specific film that you’re screening or to get an umbrella licence for your venue. Whether or not you’re planning on charging for the screening and the type of venue can also change licences and fees, too. You can create an account with Film Bank  and then they sort out licences and DVD copies of films to you directly.  They’re a great resource. Once on the Film Bank website, go to ‘create an account’ and get screening!

Remember - if you do have any questions, contact Fabric on behalf of City of Film. We’re happy to help!
