Two new talent development schemes give breaks to new creative talent
Screen Yorkshire has announced two new development schemes as part of its strategy to invest in production and creative talent within the region. The List will offer up to thirty trainees the opportunity to work on the latest film and TV blockbusters being filmed in Yorkshire. Triangle 2013 is a national programme to develop Writer, Director and Producer partnerships. Both schemes are funded by the Creative Skillset Film Skills Fund as part of ‘A Bigger Future 2’, theUK film skills strategy.

Our new Yorkshire Content Fund is raising production levels significantly within Yorkshire so The List is perfectly timed to create new trainee opportunities on film productions such as Warp’s ’71, Emu Films’ Catch Me Daddy or high-end TV such as World Productions’ Great Train Robbery – building Yorkshire’s future crew base. Triangle 2013 is now firmly established as one of the UK’s leading development schemes for emerging film creatives.”

Now in its third year, Triangle is a tried and tested model which works. As well as uniting talent with industry, it also importantly factors in the creative space required for development to empower and strengthen each creative team and their projects. Four projects from 2012 are now in funded development thanks to Creative England.”
The List will offer up to thirty trainees the opportunity of paid work placements on major film and TV productions filming in Yorkshire. Trainees must be Yorkshire based and have up to a year’s experience in the industry. Screen Yorkshire is looking for exceptionally talented individuals who are looking to build a career in specific work grades such as camera; hair and make-up; art department; wardrobe and costume; production runner and production sound. Industry experts will lead the trainees on an intensive two-day induction course and placements will last for a minimum of four weeks on productions financed by Screen Yorkshire or other productions filming within the region.
The List trainees will receive a salary of which 70% will be paid by Screen Yorkshire and the remainder by the employer. The List is funded by Creative Skillset’s Craft and Technical Skills Academy and has been modelled on their national Trainee Placement Scheme which places film trainees in paid work on UK productions. Bradford UNESCO City of Film is also a supporter and partner in The List.
Triangle 2013 is a nine month development scheme to develop new ‘triangles’ between writers, director and producers within theUK film industry. The national scheme has been managed by Screen Yorkshire for three years and selects 45 applicants who form teams, participate in a series of workshops and are mentored by industry professionals. Four teams progress to the final stages and are supported in developing their first draft script.
Industry participation in previous Triangle programmes includes Studio Canal, Salt, The Works, Distrify, Vertigo, The Agency, United Agents, 2B Pictures, the BFI and Film4. Triangle was initially developed as film development scheme across the north with Northern Film & Media and Vision and Media.
