WORKING IN LOCATIONS
Screen Yorkshire in partnership with Film London is running a one-day workshop aimed at those who are interested in working within the locations department and for those who work in TV, commercial and film industries as Researchers, Associate Producers and Filmmakers who want to know more about filming safely and legally on location.
Date: Friday 14th August 2009 (Registration from 9.00)
Venue: The Carriageworks, The Electric Press, Millenium Square, Leeds, LS2 3AD.
Cost: £40 per person, payable in advance. (Cost includes lunch and hand outs).
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
Led by two experienced location managers, Paul Howard and Harriet Lawrence, topics covered will include:
• Understanding the Role of the Location Manager
Different types of production, the role of the Location Manager and understanding how they fit into a crew
• The Brief
Script breakdown, budgeting, unit size, art dept, special effects and sound requirements
• Research
Scheduling, using libraries, understanding architecture and how to photograph the location, the internet and books, and working with organisations and film offices
• Recce-ing
Camera, tide times, traffic patterns and light studies
• Pre-production
Contracts, responsibilities, security, planning the shoot, the schedule and call sheet
• Shoot
Traffic control, police, dealing with the public and paparazzi, and protecting the location
There will also be a Q&A with the workshop tutors.
