BRADFORD CITY OF FILM ANNOUNCES ITS BURSARY SCHEME
for developing makers' film careers

With funding from West Yorkshire Grants, Fabric, on behalf of City of Film, is delighted to announce the first Bradford City of Film Bursary Scheme. This scheme will offer small bursaries of up to £250 to creative individuals and companies to enable them to do things that will result in developing their careers in the film industry.
“We are very excited to be able to do this in 2010, particularly when funding is at a premium throughout the country. While the bursaries are relatively small, they can make all the difference between finishing a short film or getting a piece of work”, Alissa Juvan, Creative Development Manager of Fabric, said. “We will be looking at proposals for a variety of things and activities, provided that the applicant can demonstrate how the bursary will help develop his or her career.”
Examples of the kinds of things that the bursaries can support would be: attending a specific training course; purchasing equipment or software that will enhance business or work opportunities; creating new promotional materials; paying for particular business advice or mentor support, or to help finish a film.
The total bursary budget available is £750 through the end of March 2011; therefore, each bursary will be a maximum of £250. There will be regular deadlines for bursary applications throughout the rest of 2010 and early 2011. Submission deadlines will be 1st September; 1st December and the 1st of March 2011.
Bursaries will be awarded based on applicants’ demonstration of the identified need and how it will help him or her to develop their work or career, that they have explored alternative sources of support but that they would not be able to go ahead with the work without the bursary, as well as the applicant needing to be living or working in Bradford.
Applicants should respond to the following questions when submitting their proposals, and they will be notified within two weeks as to the status of their proposal.
1. A brief introduction to you and your work
2. Your address/postcode and/or the address/postcode areas that you intend to deliver work
3. What activity the bursary is for (including dates/timescales)
4. How you expect this to enhance your business or work opportunities or your professional development
5. How you have identified this particular activity is needed
6. A simple breakdown of the costs of the activity
7. Why you need a bursary to achieve this activity
8. How and when you will report back to us what the impact and results were
Proposals must be submitted to Alissa Juvan, Creative Development Manager, at Fabric via email: alissa.juvan@creativebradford.co.uk or via post, if unable to submit via email.
For any questions, please contact Fabric on 01274 370 291.
Peg Alexander, Director of Bradford City of Film, said “This is a perfect example of how being the world’s first City of Film is helping us work towards Bradford being a world class place to learn about and through film and make film. This autumn will see some really exciting activity. “
