Schools Short Film Competition--deadline 22nd May!
Bradford City of Film is inviting Bradford schools to submit short films to a competition aimed at finding the next generation of film makers.
Following on from the recent ‘Made in Bradford’ competition for established film makers, this competition is aimed at schools and other organisations working with young people. Schools can submit films they have already made or make new ones addressing the same ‘Made in Bradford’ theme.
The ‘City of Film’ initiative, a partnership between Bradford Council, Screen Yorkshire, and the National Media Museum, received more than a dozen proposals from film makers for their ‘senior’ competition which closed yesterday. Organisers are now busy sifting through the proposals and will shortly award five commissions of £1,000 each to the chosen film makers.
Whilst similar budgets aren’t on offer to schools ‘City of Film’ will provide support to schools who want to get involved and all the entries will be screened at a special event in the summer with prizes for the best entries. Films can be of any genre and can be submitted by primary and secondary schools and other organisations in Bradford district provided those involved in the production are under the age of 18.
Fabric, Bradford’s arts development organisation, which runs ‘Bradford Film Network’ and is organising the competition for Bradford ‘City of Film’ will provide support for entrants either by putting them in touch with members of Bradford Film Network who will help with ideas and advice or by lending cameras and technical support. Entries should be submitted to Fabric by Friday 22nd May. A submission form can be downloaded from Fabric's website.
City of Film Project Manager Nigel Rice said “Bradford City of Film is committed to developing film in Bradford and we hope that this competition gives all those young people who are learning about film, either through the new ‘Creative and Media Diploma’ or through other school initiatives, a chance to show what they can do to a wider audience”.
Gideon Seymour, Director of Fabric, said “We know through our own work that many schools are working with film makers and using video to enhance learning and develop new skills and are delighted that City of Film is again providing an opportunity for the district’s young people to show what they can do”.
