Bradford City of Film - Short Film Competition

Bradford City of Film announces the launch of a competition for Bradford filmmakers.

‘Bradford City of Film’ is launching a competition for Bradford film makers.  The ‘City of Film’ initiative, a partnership between Bradford Council, Screen Yorkshire, and  the National Media Museum,  is inviting proposals from Bradford-based film makers who want to create a short film which addresses the theme ‘Made in Bradford’.  Films can be of any genre including fiction, animation and documentary and are open to people who live or work in Bradford district and are over the age of 18.  City of Film will also shortly be announcing a parallel competition for schools.

The five best proposals will be given a budget of £1,000 each with the finished films being screened at a special awards event at Bradford Playhouse later this year. Films will also be considered for screening at the National Media Museum, on Bradford’s Big Screen and via the Bradford City of Film website.  Fabric, Bradford’s arts development organisation, which runs ‘Bradford Film Network’ and is organising the competition for Bradford ‘City of Film’ will provide support and advice for entrants.

Thanks to funds made available by Bradford City of Film some camera equipment and editing facilities are available via Fabric and help and advice will be made available where possible through the Bradford Film Network.  The deadline for proposals is noon on Tuesday 17th March with the successful commissions announced during the week of 23rd March.  The films should be completed by the end of April.

City of Film Project Manager Nigel Rice said “Bradford City of Film is committed to helping local film makers develop their skills and broaden their experience. We hope that, at a time when Keighley born Simon Beaufoy has won an Oscar, his achievement will inspire Bradford’s film makers and that this competition will be the first of many opportunities for Bradford film makers to make new work in the district”.

Gideon Seymour, Director of Fabric, said “We are delighted that the Bradford City of Film initiative is demonstrating its commitment to film making in the district.  We firmly believe that within the district the talent exists to make Bradford a true city of film”.

Application forms can be found on the City of Film website(3 MB/doc)  or on Fabric’s website at www.creativebradford.co.uk/news
