Celebrate Older People’s Week with City of Film and Charles Dickens

DICKENS ON SCREEN – ILLUSTRATED TALK and FILM – Free to over 50’s

Tuesday 10 July – National Media Museum, Bradford –

1pm – 2pm screening follows directly after

This event is sponsored by Bradford City of Film as part of Older People’s Week

Two hundred years on from his birth Charles Dickens remains not only one of the most popular of English novelists but one of the most frequently adapted for both the large and the small screen. There are too many versions to consider in one talk – over ninety in the Silent Era alone, [many excerpts from rather than complete versions of his novels]. So this introduction will focus on the films that preceded and to some degree influenced the classic adaptation presented today: David Lean’s 1946 film of Great Expectations.

This event is free to over 50’s. Includes screening of Great Expectations. Tutor: Keith Withall
